I was curious to know more information as to why electronic toys are not
beneficial even when they are educational
? I have always had the intent
of only allowing my children to play with toys that were educational, but a
lot of those would be electronic. Can you explain your theory as to why
educational electronics are not good for them?

Great question! In general, I am opposed to electronic entertainment. Many
parents use them as a "baby sitter" or opportunity to keep their kids quiet.
Sometimes these are done "in the name of education", i.e. "but they're doing
math, or spelling words." I am a big proponent of doing things WITH your
children. Why don't we sit with them and do these educational "exercises?"  Can't
we practice spelling or math facts WITH them? Workbooks, practice sheets, and
magazines with exercises are all excellent means to accomplish the same goals. I
believe video games, computers and TVs occupy too much of our children's time.
Less eye contact, focus, and interactive experiences take place when they are
consumed by a "screen"...even if it is in the name of "education."
